Marinella Barigazzi

Author and Translator of children's books

Biography

 

Born in Pavia, Marinella Barigazzi currently lives near Milan.

She worked for more than 10 years as a technical writer and then as a free-lance translator of press releases.

At the end of the 90's she conceived a passion for children's literature and since 2003 has translated over 80 books, from English and French, collaborating with APE Junior (Salani), EMME Edizioni, Mondadori, Lapis Edizioni and Kite Edizioni.

As author she has published the two picture books "Bimba da grande" and "Bimbo da grande" (Lapis Edizioni) printed in 2007 and 2008, and "Chissà..." published by Kite Edizioni and illustrated by Ursula Bucher.

"The Dot", "Ish" and "Someday" by Peter H. Reynolds and all the picture books by Lauren Child are among the most important titles translated by Marinella, together with "Guess How Much I Love You" by Sam McBratney and "Tremolo" by Tomi Ungerer.

She also re-wrote in rhyme stories such as "Grill Pan Eddy" by Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross, "Potty Time" by Guido Van Genechten, "A' fond de train" by Corinne Albaut and many others.

At the Bologna Children's Book Fair 2006 she spoke at the Translation Centre on the theme: "Books for Children: Translation or Adaptation?" which she then followed with an article for the Andersen magazine called "Text Adaptation in Children's literature".
